[intro]
[Verse 1]
Flowers bloom in disarray within the garden
Clusters upon clusters, all blazing bright
Yet they choose to keep company with this mottled wall
Beside its cracks, a cold well stands alone

Morning mist disperses
Bird songs flit from distant branches
Laughter echoes from some household's courtyard
As if singing my unspoken thoughts to completion

[Chorus]
Spring's scattered light   gazes upon  this abandoned well
Such beauty   leaves me  unable to bear it
If joy   resides  only at others' windows
I am left with  shadows on the curtain  swaying, swaying
Waiting in vain

Spring's scattered light   hangs upon  the paper window screen
My fingertips touch it  yet dare not  lift the curtain
If this life is spent  trapped within  the depths of my chamber
Who will walk for me  through the flower-lined corridor
To peer out for me

[Verse 2]
Sunset hues  cast across the window lattice
Evening breezes  stir the fragrances  to life
Fine drizzle  falls upon the moss
Shattering the distant journey  of my imagination

Beyond the misty waters  a boat drifts
Slowly passing by  without leaving its name
From within my chamber, I lean out in silence
To see only my own shadow, tinged with blue

[Bridge]
How can I speak to this time?
Say I've betrayed its tenderness (alas)
The door knocker rusts, ring upon ring of age
Like thoughts turned long, turned into captivity

[Chorus]
Scattered spring light gazes upon this abandoned well
Such beauty leaves me
unable to bear it
If joy resides
only in others' windows
I am left with only the curtain's shadow, swaying and swaying
Waiting in vain

Scattered spring light hangs upon the paper window
My fingertips touch it, yet I dare not lift the curtain (dare not think)
If this life is trapped within the depths of the inner chambers
Then let this courtyard's floral fragrance
remember my yearning
