[Verse 1]
Ten years of war's ravages
Smoke and fire have scorched the land thin
Golden horsemen's iron hooves shattered city walls
Pressing onward to Nanjing's gates
I dwell in a foreign land
Strangers' paths overgrown with mugwort before my door
By day, voices surge like a tide
By night, only my trembling heart remains
[Chorus]
Where behind which window
Do the lanterns of Wuxing still glow?
Do they wait for my return, or illuminate another's sorrow?
Neither leaving nor staying is easy.
A sliver of crimson at the horizon's edge
Cannot light the frost-white wrinkles at my beard's roots.
[Verse 2]
On the paper window of the inn
A few old letters are pasted.

The ink has long been blurred by dampness,
Yet the names still sting like needles
Dry tears
Freeze into ice at the corners of my eyes
Wiped away, they shatter in my palm
Like these unforgiving regrets
[Chorus]
The lamplight of Wuxing Behind which window does it linger?
Waiting for my return Or illuminating another's sorrow?
To leave is not an option To stay is not an option
A sliver of crimson at the horizon
Cannot illuminate the frost-white wrinkles at my beard's root
[Bridge]
If I return to Wuxing, I fear old friends here will worry
If I stay in this foreign land, I dread the rain-chilled nights back home
Such a small window
Must hold the parting of countless cities
[Chorus]
The lamplight of Wuxing, behind which window?
Does it wait for my return, or illuminate another's sorrow?
Leaving is no solution, staying is no solution
I've asked every mountain, every river, every soul
Where lies the tranquil doorstep for my twilight years?
[Outro]
